
On August 4, 2025, the Uzbek Japan Innovation Center of Youth, in collaboration with Akita University of Japan, held the “Central Asia International Forum on Resources, Energy and Environment, Tashkent, Uzbekistan 2025”.
The forum included an Uzbekistan & Japan Inter-University Session in the morning, aimed at promoting exchanges between resource-related universities in Uzbekistan and Japan. In the afternoon, mutual discussion and multilateral communication focused on the “SATREPS”* project in Central Asia.
The forum was attended by representatives of Japan's JICA, JST organizations, Akita, Hokkaido, Kyushu, Nagoya, Kyoto Universities and Tokyo Institute of Science (NIMC), as well as representatives of Nazarbayev University from the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as professors and teachers from Tashkent State Technical University, University of Geological Sciences, Navoi State Mining University and other organizations.
At this event, young scientists, professors and teachers and interested specialists discussed the main aspects and prospects of the efficient use of natural resources in the Central Asian region, the transition to sustainable energy sources, as well as modern environmental problems and ways to solve them.
Due to the existence of common problems in Central Asia, the importance of establishing cooperative relations for the promotion of projects in the region was also confirmed.
*SATREPS, which stands for Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development, is a Japanese government program that promotes international joint research between Japan and developing countries. The program aims to address global issues by combining Japan's advanced science and technology with the needs of developing countries through collaborative research projects. Japan International Cooperation Agency and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) are collaborating. UJICY is promoting H2 UZ, a project with Kyushu University to develop efficient and innovative green/blue hydrogen production technology to realize a carbon-neutral society that takes into account the regional characteristics of Uzbekistan.
