On May 15, 2026, the second meeting of the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) for the international project “SATREPS-H2Uz” was held at the Uzbek-Japan Innovation Center of Youth (the Center) under the Tashkent State Technical University named after Islam Karimov. The project, titled “Creation of Hydrogen Energy in the Republic of Uzbekistan Using Innovative Technologies”, is slated for 2024-2029 and is being implemented within the framework of the Japan governmentʼs “SATREPS” international program.

The meeting was attended in a hybrid online-offline format by scientists and specialists from participating institutions, including the Center, the National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek, Navoi State University of Mining and Technologies, the National Research Institute of Renewable Energy Sources, Japanʼs Kyushu and Waseda Universities, and the International Institute for Carbon-Neutral Energy Research (I2CNER). Also invited to the meeting were representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovations of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Energy, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) office in Uzbekistan, and both the head office and the Uzbekistan representative office of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The event was opened with an introductory speech by the Director of the Center, S. Niyazbekov. He began by expressing his pleasure at the attendeesʼ presence and thanked them for their participation. He then presented a brief overview of the scientific and practical work completed and planned for the “SATREPS-H2Uz” international project.

To provide the attendees with detailed information on the scientific and practical work carried out to date according to the project plan, the floor was given to the projectʼs principal investigators: JICA expert Prof. Yu. Yanagida, Kyushu University Prof. Yu. Sugai, and the Centerʼs Deputy Director for Research and Industry Relations, Prof. Z. Kadirova. They delivered presentations and provided information on the processes that have been completed and are currently underway.

During the meeting, participants and responsible representatives from the partner organizations directly implementing the project expressed positive feedback on the information presented, as well as on the future planned stages and prospects for the projectʼs successful completion. It was noted that the scientific and practical results of the project will be of great importance to Uzbekistanʼs energy sector and will lay the groundwork for large-scale industrialization. They wished the project participants success and progress in their scientific work.

During the meeting, the participants of the event and responsible representatives of the partner organizations directly implementing the project expressed positive opinions on the information presented and the prospects for the future planned stages and positive results of the project, noted that the scientific and practical results of the project will be of great importance in the energy sector of Uzbekistan and will create a basis for large-scale industrialization, and wished the project participants success and development in their scientific work in this regard.
